This week's assignment was to simply begin adding information to the wiki site. Explain what you added and why you added it. Then, for the sake of conversation, reply to at least one other person's post.
I added Muhammed because he started the Islam religion, which became very popular in the classical period and is now the second most popular religion in the world.
Also because of Islam and Muhammad's prophecy it was brought to attention of its possible appeal and sense of unity, making it so that many more people wanted to join its community. Later establishing empires based on their faith.
I wanted to do something like this! Let's just say I'm a little late. Good choice!
The reason why I added Chandragupta is, he was one of the first Mauyran to take power and he unify all of the subcontinet, India.
i added information on Buddhism, because I think Buddhism is very interesting religion and was worshiped by lots of people in the Classical Period.
i realy like the religion too and any other religion that deals with naturalistic ideas.
I added information on Buddhism, because I think Buddhism is very interesting religion and was worshiped by lots of people in the Classical Period.
And Buddhism is the fourth most practiced relegion in the world.
-MK
I added information about the Latin language because although it is not spoken (widely), it is still studied and learned by numerous people.
At least they had a choice if they wanted to learn it!
I added Daoism because i believe it helped form China. It added naturalistic, peaceful insights of the world rather than militaristic and political views. Without it China would probably be a very violent, cruel nation.
I'm all for peaceful thinking, but it would seem dificult to rule a nation saying that it will all be "sunshine and roses."
I talked about the idea of women in patriarchal socities because their role was more important than they were credited for. And Buddha was taken.
I added Cyrus because he was the first known person to attempt to conquer the world. He came close too.
Maybe, but the person who came clsest was Temujuh (spelling?) or Ghengis Khan. I defeated the Chinese as him.
I added some info about the Hindu religious texts; the Vedas. I thought this was important to add because unlike most religions, Hinduism doest just have one main script. I thought it was interesting.
I added the Byzantine Empire because it was the longest lasting Empire that started in the Classical Period.
I added the Han Dynasty because someone had already put the Zhou Dynasty. And I thought the Han Dynasty was an important part of China in the Classical Period because the Han Dynasty perfected the bureaucracy.
i added sanskrit because i think it is a very interesting language and it does with india and i like india.
I added a summary about Augustus Caesar because after his great-uncle's death he stepped forward as Rome's future. As the first emperor he paved the way for the empire and established boundaries never seen before in the world.
I think its really cool how his name was Octavian but after his defeat of Mark Anthony it changed to Augustus.
I added Shi Huangdi because he was the very first emperor and the basis for many things.
He really was important.
I added the idea/ belief of Dharma because it relates to Buddhism. In Classical India it was like law, and a basic guide to their religious path.
This is important too because it was the caste and career of a person determined by their birth.
I added Ashoka because Octavius/Augustus was taken. I shall respond to another's post once someone posts something on here that is worthy of my attention.
i love your reason chris, my reason is similar to yours.
Oh, and I thought that Augustus meant sacred one, not revered one, but the information that I learned from Rome: Power and Glory and the time that I spent at Hadrian's wall might be outdated…
that is some great stuff chris..i think you'll do something great someday
I added Buddha because he created one of the world's largest religions, and Buddhism had a great impact on societies in later periods of the world.
I agree with the statement you made. They apply that and hinduism to their lives(caste system). So, yeah mhelton your right about that.
Buddha was for sure one of the people that had an influence on The Classical Period. Good choice!
I was going to do Buddha! Thanks. But I guess that's what I get for procrastinating. You know what?…
PROCRASTERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!… Tommorow
It's procrastinators, not procrasters.
I think I liked Buddha's history the most. The fact that he was a rich prince and was willing to give everything up to learn.
I even give people Buddhas on their birthdays because I like him so much. Does that make me weird?
I added Jesus Christ to the list because he had a big influence on Christianity and Christianity’s teachings during the Classical Period.
He didnt only have an influence in the classical period, but also today. Great choice.
I agree Connor, and Jesus is still the best :)
I wish we had a like button….wait….this isn't facebook. haha! I like your comment. Plus, Jesus had twelve followers called disiples who were with always with him as he taught God's word. At Passover, 50 days after Jesus' crusifiction, Jesus spoke unto them saying the Holy Spirit would be with them and that he would always be with them. And with Jesus' guidance through the Holy Spirit the disiples create the first church. It's a great story. You should look into it.
Wow, Truly! We told that story at the Church camp i just got back from! it was fun and everyone cried. Except me because im too manly.
nice! again the like button would be awesome here! p.s.-I would cry 2. Spiritual moments are awesome! I'm just saying. At the camp were there mostly girls or a mix between boys and girls. Cause it would be explainable if there were more girls than boys. We cry alot when we have spiritual moments….TRUST ME I kno! For 4 years I was in this sorority group at church and we're awesome friends and we cry alot during spiritual moments or when someone is going through a rough time………………….and I'm talking about girls crying…..wow…LoLz!
I added Confucius and Confucianism because they both had lasting impacts on China.
The life of Confucius is also important because his story tracks the fall of the Zhou dynasty and the rise of scholars in China.
i added doaism legalism and confucianism they were the first religions of china
and are still culturally relevant today!
(culturally relevant is a cool phrase… I'm going to start saying it all the time)
